Swype for Symbian is designed to help you type faster on your Nokia touchscreen phone. It provides a virtual keyboard that lets you write without having to lift your finger too much.
Instead of tapping each key separately, you simply draw across the Swype for Symbian keyboard over the letters that make up the word. When you take you finger off the final letter, if Swype for Symbian hasn't already recognized the word it'll bring up a small pop-up window with a choice of possible matches. Tap the word you want and Swype for Symbian will insert it for you.
If a word isn't recognized, you can add it to Swype's database simply by tapping it out conventionally. Next time you go to swipe that word, the program should automatically display it.
Is it faster?
The accuracy of Swype for Symbian isn't too bad, and eventually you'll be typing quicker than you did before. It does take a while to learn the nuances of the input method, such as scribbling on a key to make a double letter, using shortcuts for certain punctuation and handling accented words.
One thing you'll realize on your learning curve is that you can get by with ignoring the suggested words box. Swype for Symbian automatically inserts word it thinks fits best, and it's generally more right than wrong, so you can afford to just plow on with your typing and proof read it afterward.
Other features of Swype for Symbian include word prediction, audio feedback and keypress vibration. It supports four different keyboard languages: English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
Unfortunately, the keyboard won't work in portrait mode on certain devices, depending on the firmware that's installed on the phone.
It takes a while to get used to, but Swype for Symbian can definitely cut you typing times.
